1. Papers on JLG discussion of defence and public order are currently held on your section's file HKC062/3. I think it would be sensible to open a Future Section file entitled "Hong Kong: Future of Defence Lands" which would deal exclusively with the JLG aspects. Your section would continue to hold papers on eg withdrawal of the garrison, Gurkhas, RN presence afloat and general military matters.

2. If you agree, I shall set this in hand. Registry should note that I should receive top copies of telegrams dealing with defence and discussion with the Chinese: top copies of other defence papers should go to you.
