UNCLASSIFIED GENERAL BRIEFING MATERIAL ON HONG KONG
The Spanish Embassy asked us recently if we could let them have a short general background brief on Hong Kong from which they could draw
1.
in preparing briefing material for their Foreign Minister who is due to visit shortly.
2. I assembled a short paper drawing largely on a series of unclassified briefs which Nick Moakes sent me.
3. This exercise has led me to
wonder whether Hong Kong Department still produce an unclassified briefing package on Hong Kong. I have a copy of a paper entitled "General Briefing on Hong Kong", revised December 1987. If up-to-date versions of it exist it would be helpful if we could have half a dozen copies and be included on the distribution list for any further revisions. Alternatively, if you keep a standard briefing package for eg visiting MPs, that would do very well. I seem to recall1 the COI produced a brief/fact sheet on Hong Kong 3 or 4 years ago. you know if they have any plans to publish a new edition?
