VISIT OF MR MAUDE TO CHINA: JLG SUBJECT CHECKLIST

Problem

1. The Hong Kong Government and UKREP JLG Hong Kong have continued to express strong reservations about the idea of Mr Maude handing over a JLG Subject Checklist during his forthcoming visit to China.

Recommendation

2. I recommend that Mr Maude considers an alternative

strategy, as follows:

(a) The Subject Checklist is handed over by Mr Galsworthy

to Guo Fengmin in Hong Kong:

(b) Mr Maude refers to the list in his talks in Peking as

an illustration of the work the JLG must tackle:
