10TH EDITION OF THE JOINT DECLARATION ACTION CHECKLIST

Attached is a rather daunting document: the 10th Edition of the Joint Declaration Action Checklist.

2. This attempts to summarise all action needed between now and 1997 in order to implement the Joint Declaration and ensure a smooth transition. Most, butyno means all, of the necessary work will take place in the Joint Liaison Group. The Checklist covers issues handled by each Section, not just Future Section.

I should be grateful if you could all glance through the document (a) to acquaint yourself with the work ahead (it is a useful summary of the state of play on your subjects) and (b) with a view to commenting on the detail (annotations on the Checklist will be sufficient). I have highlighted each subject heading, to enable you to locate quickly areas of interest to

you.

I would envisage sending a reply to Hong Kong after my leave at the beginning of September. I should be grateful therefore if the Checklist could reach me, with comments, by 3 September.
