In connection with work on the future British Consulate General, I have been looking at past papers on the future of the JLG office. The last substantive piece of work seems to be the paper enclosed with Mr Leicester's letter of 3 July 1989 to Mr Martin (HKC031/3 1989 folio 60). However, Mr Martin mentioned during his recent mid tour leave visit that there had been some subsequent correspondence between you and Mr Galsworthy.

Perhaps on my own return from leave on 3 September, we could discuss whether further work is required on this subject.

Mr Martin was presumably referring to the correspondence which Mr Galsworthy has had with me and the Inspectors in connection with the forthcoming inspection of UKRep JLG. I encorporated these points in the briefing for the Inspectors, a copy of which, together with the relevant correspondence, can be found on the inspection file.

In addition, you should be aware that Mr Burns has sent a telegram to Mr Galsworthy floating the possibility of combining the Doug Martin job with that of Deputy British Trade Commissioner (telegram attached).~ FL 109.

I am briefing the Inspectors orally on Tuesday 4 September and would welcome any views you may have on JLG staffing before then.
