MULTILATERAL TREATIES: CUSTOMS
1.
I refer to FCO Telno 935 asking for copies of further.. Instruments regarding certain multilateral Treaties. This follows earlier requests. Although I have today sent in the necessary requests, it will take some time to obtain the papers. The documents are all held in the archives in Brooklyn, far away from the Headquarters.
2.
The purpose of this letter is to ask whether it is really necessary to provide the Chinese with copies of the original Instruments of Ratification and Notification. All the information is to be found in the annual document produced by the Secretariat entitled "Multilateral Treaties Deposited with the Secretary- General". Do the Chinese really not trust the accuracy of that publication?
3.
Might I suggest that you discuss the matter with David Edwards in the Attorney-General's Office, with whom you are no doubt in frequent contact.
