which officers could retire under any compensation arrangements this will, of course, have to await sight of the provisions of the scheme.

It is not the intention to use the Limited Compensation Scheme

allow members of HMOCS to retire

before 1997.

The Hong Kong Government has equal obligations to all its civil servants and has no grounds for affording special treatment to members of HMOCS. wishes to retain the services of its civil servants up to and beyond 1997 and there is no question of it providing compensation for them to retire early.

As regards the option to join the new pension scheme I note the points you make but the option has not been designed to cater for people who might wish to retire early under the compensation scheme. Nevertheless there is sometime to go before the option period expires and I still
