between 3 September 1939 to 30 June 1950 provided that they
joined civil service on or before 1 July 1950. Existing
pensions legislation provides for war service of officers to
count for pension if the period of war service was sandwiched
between two periods of public service. The new scheme
applies to officers who,
who, by reason of their war service,
entered civil service at a later date than
than would normally
have been the case. It will provide for the pensions of such
officers to be calculated as though half
half their war service
had been public service.
The financial commitment is
estimated to be in the region of $0.8m a year. This is a
reducing commitment because officers who joined
service on or before 1 July 1950 have all retired.
