I have consulted Robin Bidwell, who was employed by the Aden Government

sometime before Independence, about the passports that may have been used

by local employees of the Aden Government. He tells me that he cannot be

sure of the position, but he thinks that my own understanding of the situation is probably the correct one. As far as I remeber it when I was Ambassador in

Sana'a (1979-1981, ) we had a large community of ex Aden Government Servants

in Aden drawing pensions from HMG for their past service in Aden through the British Bank of the Middle East there. As far as I can remeber these people had British Passports without right of residence in the UK, and therefore were

on our lists as members of the 800 strong British ommunity in the YAR.
