You comment at some length on the Hong Kong Government Ordinance governing eligibility for pensions and on Hong Kong Government policy with regard to employment after reaching pensionable age. I do not think that this is a matter that HMG can comment on but I have passed your letter to the Civil Service Branch of the Hong Kong Government for any comments they may wish to make.
Let me say that we are not insensitive to the problems currently facing Hong Kong HMOCS pensioners. We appreciate that the sterling value of Hong Kong pensions has dropped in the last year or so and that you are naturally concerned about this. Both we and the Hong Kong, are considering as a matter of priority what may be done.
