For police officers, only appointments to Chief Superintendent and above are approved by the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs. Because the Secretary of State has a representative on the selection board for recruitment of overseas police inspectors, those in the rank of Inspector or above serving on pensionable terms are also eligible to apply for enrolment as members of HMOCS. Each individual application for membership would, however, be considered on its own merits.

In your particular case, we have recommended to the Foreign and Commonwealth Office that your enrolment as a member of HMCCS be approved, and their advice is awaited.
