Thank you for your letter of 7 August enclosing one from Mr W McIntyre of Flat 54, Chater Hall, 1 Conduit Road, Hong Kong on matters of concern to members of Her Majesty's Overseas Civil Service (HMOCS).

You may be assured that both Her Majesty's

Government and the Hong Kong Government are fully aware of the concern there is amongst HMOCS members about their future. We are giving careful thought to how we can most appropriately meet these concerns. We are not yet in a position to make an announcement but intend to do so as soon as possible.

I am returning Mr McIntyre's letter; we have kept a copy for our records.
