Thank you for your letter of 15 January about the British Government's proposed nationality package for Hong Kong and the question of pensions.

As you know, legislation for the Government's nationality package will be presented to Parliament very shortly. A detailed announcement will be made at that time.

The question of pensions for its civil servants is essentially a matter for the Hong Kong Government. understand that the Hong Kong authorities are now examining ways of taking account of the kind of concerns about security of pensions to which you refer in your letter, as the Chief Secretary confirmed to the Legislative Council on 7 February.
