The Director of Intellectual Property (DIP) is responsible ensuring that the objectives of the Intellectuel Property Department are met, and for the administration of the department.

He is responsible for the planning and development necessary to enable the department to take responsibility in duc Course for all aspects of intellectual property matters (except criminal enforcement which will remain the responsibility of the mmissioner of Customs and Excise, advised by the Attorney General's Chambers).

The Direct r's primary responsibilities are as follows :

to ensure the continued efficient registration and administration functions

the Trade Marks and Patents Registries;

co ensure that departmental revenue is pcimizud by regularly reviewing fers and charges, and adonting sound commercial practices whatever appropriate in achieving departmental goals;

to

liaise with the World Intellectual Property Organisation (WETO), other intellectual property offices world-wide, and other relevant institutions

overseas, 200

represent Hong ng at Werseas conferences and other meetings, On intellectual property rights, with the objective fraising the Profile of Hong Kong overseas and promoting it as a regime chat nctively encourages and protects intellectual proparty rights;

to devise strategies (including workshops, seminars, publicity and public relations aspects) to promote awareness in Hong Kong of the importance of intellectual property rights, in order to encourage local innovations and legitimate exploitation of overseas inventions, including lizising, advising, and consulting with local businessmen, professionals, and professional organisations working intellectual property fields;
