Vacancy for Director of Intellectual Property
Thank you for your teleletter of 20 March
The post of Director of Intellectual Property was circulated vide Civil Service Branch Circular (Vacancies) No. 39/90 dated 31 January 1990, a copy of which is attached. Applications were invited from serving officers at D3/DL3 or above or equivalent level. Five applications (including two from unqualified candidates) were received and all the three qualified candidates were interviewed by the Recruitment Selection Board chaired by the Secretary for Trade and Industry. Ms Alice Tai was considered the best candidate among the three. A copy of her application is attached. You wil1 notice that Ms Tai possesses two academic legal qualifications (LL.B and LL.M in public law).
Ms Tai has beer confirmed to the permanent establishment. According to the terms of
of appointment stipulated in paragraph 7 of the CSB circular, she will be required to serve on trial (normally for one year) if she is appointed as Director of Intellectual Property. Subject to the satisfactory completion of her trial period, she will be confirmed in her office as Director of Intellectual Property. In normal circumstances, she will be regarded as having transferred from the Administrative Service to Director of Intellectual Property.
