Dear Sir,

For some considerable time now the Greater Manchester Police has been actively attempting to recit members of the Chinese Community into the Police Service. Meetings have been held with Community Leaders, who have been most co-operative, but unfortunately we have, to date, had no success.

The purpose of this letter is to seek your advice concerning future entry into this country of English speaking Chinese officers, currently serving in the Hong Kong Police Force who may wish to pursue a the Greater Manchester Police.

I am

career in

aware that entry criteria is still being considered for residents in Hong Kong who may wish to come to Britain.

As you are aware we have a population in excess of 30,000 members of the Chinese Community and are anxious to ensure that we are fully respresentative of the community we police.

I am not certain as to the best way to progress this initiative and would be grateful for any advice the Foreign and Commonwealth Department can offer in this matter.

Thank you for your assistance.

Yours faithfully,

Chief Superintendent Personnel Branch
