SCHOOL PASSAGE SCHEME

A school passage is the cheapest available economy class air passage without stopovers between Hong Kong and the country in which a child is being educated. It may be a return passage to enable a child to visit his parents during part of a major school holiday (e.g. Summer holiday), or a single passage to commence or cease education overseas.
In the context of the "school passage scheme"
(a)
"child" means an unmarried child under the age of 21 who is receiving full time education overseas. Notwithstanding the above, for local officers a child must be at least 9 years of age before he or she is eligible to participate in the school passage scheme. In this connection, a child who attains the age of 9 in the term in which he or she commences education overseas will be eligible for a school passage to commence education;
(b) "officer" includes
(i)

"overseas officer", meaning an overseas officer on new leave terms; or
(ii) "local officer", meaning a monthly-paid officer who is not on overseas terms of service;
"education overseas" means

for children of overseas officers,
full-time education overseas at a
recognised educational establishment; or

for children of local officers,
full-time education at a recognised
educational establishment in the United Kingdom; and
"tour" means
