Dear Sir,
I am directed to offer you appointment as an Inspector of Folice in the Royal Hong Kong Police Force on overseas conditions of service and on the terms set out in this letter and in the attached "Memorandum on Conditions of Service for Overseas Police Inspectors" (G.F. 341 (P)), subject to the satisfactory completion of recruitment procedures.

The appointment may be:

a)
on agreement for three years; or
b)
on probation for three years in the first instance with a view to confirmation to the permanent and pensionable establishment.
If you opt for appointment on agreement terms, you will be eligible for a gratuity in accordance with paragraph 10 of the Memorandum (G.F. 341 (P)).

If you opt for appointment on probation, you will not be eligible for a gratuity, but will be eligible for confirmation to the permanent and pensionable establishment at the end of the probationary period, provided your conduct and service have been satisfactory and you have acquired all the qualifications necessary for confirmation. You will be eligible for retiring benefits in accordance with paragraph 22 of the Memorandum (G.F. 341 (P)),

Before deciding your option, you are advised to study the following Government regulation carefully:
"Officers serving on probation may, during the period of probation, apply to the Secretary for the Civil Service to transfer to agreement terms. Such an application is only approved if there are strong compassionate grounds or it is in the Government's interest to alter the officer's terms of appointment. If such a transfer is
