I refer to your letter of 19 March Len concerning visa problems of Mr Brennan's Polish wife and son.
We have referred your case to the Director of Immigration and have also spoken to the Officer-in-Charge of Visa Control. The Hong Kong Government does not as yet have an open policy towards the admission of East European nationals and visas will only be approved for work related purposes only. The applications from Mrs Jolanta Pieniazek-Majerska and her son were rejected under current policy governing the admission of such nationals.
The circumstances of the case have been reviewed by the Director of Immigration upon our intervention. I regret to say that it has not been successful and no extenuating circumstances have been found which warrant a departure from existing policy.
Yours sincerely,
(Miss Wilma Toong)
for Secretary
