The Corporatisation of RTHK
Broadcasts by TdM
To establish RTHK as an independent statutory public broadcasting corporation, under its own Board of Governors. The new corporation will be funded primarily through Government subvention.
Tdм has plans to boost its transmission power so that its broadcasts are receivable in a wide area outside Macau. This is of concern to both Hong Kong and China.
Work is in progress on the detailed legislative, staffing and financial arrangements. It is aimed to establish the Board of Governors at the beginning of 1991. However, RTHK will remain a government department during the transition period 1990-91. RTHK should be disestablished and the financial arrangements completed by the start of the financial year 1991-92.
Talks have been held with Macau Government
representatives, who have been told that TdM's plans are not acceptable to Hong Kong. Formal response from Macau Government awaited.
