Non-Franchised Telecommunications Services

Appendix A

For the business sector we will build an end-to-end fibre network. We will first launch service in 1991 on Hong Kong Island in Central, Admiralty, Wan Chai and Causeway Bay. In 1992 we will provide services to Tsim Sha Tsui, Shamshuipo and Kai Tak. We will expand the service territory for our non-franchised services to all the major business districts during the first 5 years of operation.

We summarize below twelve new services we will be offering market :

1. High speed point-to-point data communications services DSO, DS1 and DS3 services; these services would be provided locally and internationally via interconnection to Cable & Wireless.

Typically these services are used for transmission between computers. The fibre network will greatly facilitate high speed and high volume transmission.

LAN-to-LAN (local area network) interconnection for the networking of personal computers among multiple sites of one business.

Metropolitan Area Network (MAN) for switched data applications operating at speeds up to 45

Mbs. This service would allow ease of data communications via personal computers among a diverse group of businesses.

EDI (Electronic Data Interchange) for the electronic processing of trading documents.

Fax Store & Forward for the more efficient and secure delivery of fax messages. This enables messages to be sent to the addressee at any fax machine through the use of PIN codes rather than to only one designated fax machine.

Electronic Vaults for back-up оп sensitive business transactions.

This provides temporary storage for such transactions as overnight ATM transactions or funds transfer instructions.

Bandwidth on Demand for the rapid provisioning of high speed data services.

8. Enhanced network management for the timely oversight and control of business networks. This will allow users to manage

their own telecommunications network more effectively.
