ASSISTANCE TO THE PROFESSIONS
BACKGROUND
1. The development and retention of young professionals in Hong Kong is a matter of major importance for the future stability and prosperity of the territory. Assistance in training and support to the professions in Hong Kong would help to demonstrate Britain's long-term commitment to them. The British Council has already
demonstrated a similar commitment to the more senior figures in the
professions in its 1990/91 PESC proposals. A further expansion would make possible a much further reaching scheme matching the proposed assistance to younger professionals.
