Institutions'

Implementation Proposals

It is accepted, as a general principle, that the length of first-degree courses should be determined in accordance with educational requirements. The majority of such courses conform with a full- time three-year structure, thus according with the objective of increasing the number of students entering tertiary education each year. Nevertheless, on educational/profes- sional grounds, some courses require a longer curriculum

UPGC's Comments

April 1990. It was further agreed that CUHK should be permitted to expand beyond 8,700 fte (to 11,500 fte) during 1991-95, subject to compliance with (b)

The length of individual first-degree courses has been, or is being assessed by the UPGC, in consultation with Government and/or other con- cerned organisations, as appropriate

Decision 3

The length of first-degree courses at all UPGC-funded institutions should in principle be the same for any given subject

With the exception of CUHK (see Item 1 above), the institutions have accepted that the length of first- degree courses should be the same for any given subject and that these courses in the main should adopt a full-time three-year curriculum or equivalent structure

The strategy to be adopted in respect of CUHK is reported under Item 1 above. Responses from the other institutions are in line with the Government's decisions and guidelines
