(c) in terms of overall student population, CPHK will

be required to achieve the highest rate, of 10%,

followed by CUHK (9.4%) HKU (9%) and HKBC

(7.5%). (HKP has already reached its planned

capacity);

(a)

the growth by course level will be :-

(i)

-

first degree courses CPHK (19% per annum), HKP (12.1%), CUHK (9.4%), HKU (8.9%) and

HKBC (6.2%);

(ii) taught postgraduate

courses

-

the highest

annual figures will again be recorded by the

Polytechnics (44.7% for HKP and 24.7% for

CPHK), in contrast to the modest growth at

the Universities (2.9% for HKU and 2.1% for

CUHK), whilst HKBC will introduce such courses for the first time; and

(iii) research

-

students

there will be

significant growth in the provision of

research student numbers across the board

87.3% per annum for CPHK; 52.4% for HKP;

23.2% for HKU; 20.9% for CUHK; and 13.6% for

HKBC; and

(e) the increase in degree places at the Polytechnics and the consequent transfer of sub-degree places to the VTC will result in reductions in sub-degree

places of 13.4% p.a. at HKP and 1.6% p.a. at CPHK.

On the basis of these findings, the UPGC considers that the revised targets will be achievable, subject to :-
