simply facilitate the child's admission. If these requirements are met, the papers are then referred to the Department of Health who advise on the welfare aspects of the case and the likelihood of a court in this country granting an adoption order. To this end, the Department of Health will normally ask your local Social Services Department to prepare a home study report on you and your wife/husband. Naturally you must (both) be in the United Kingdom when this report is being prepared. In view of this, it would generally be advisable for you not to travel to collect the child until the outcome of the entry clearance application is known.
If the outcome of all these enquiries is satisfactory, entry clearance will then be authorised.
