Each adult escapee had to pay 0.5 tael of gold for the escort service. The exodus was organized by three ECVs 'HA', 'VONG' and 'DENH' who could be located at DƯƠNG MINH PHUNG, QUAN 11, HO CHI MINH CITY, S.VN. The participants travelled in small groups and left HO CHI MINH CITY by train. They passed HA NOI and made, a three days' rest at HONG GAI. The groups then headed for
DONG XING (東興 ) via MONG GAI. All, except a family of five, crossed the border check point without inspection. The family was questioned by V.N. officials and two adult V.N. identity cards were collected from the husband and wife. They were asked to get them back after their short visit in China. They were led to an unknown village where they remained until 4-5-90. Again,
) the next day. they moved in small groups and arrived at GUANG ZHOU (NA 0.2 tael of gold was collected from each adult for the purchasing of a sailing junk. On the morning of 6-5-90, the escapees were escorted to HU MEN (¡) where they were given a prearranged junk. They set sail immediately and were intercepted by Hong Kong Marine Police before dark.
