They then travelled to Fang Cheng (B) to wait for a boat to take them to Japan. After one month, they were told only a boat to Hong Kong could be arranged. They bought the

boat at RMB 8,000 and set sail for Hong Kong, stopping over at Zhan Jiang (I) and Tai Ping ( 湛江)

2 Vietnamese who arrived on 15 January admitted that they first left Bien Hoa, S.VN by land on 1.1.90. They hired a Vietnamese courier who took them from Lang Son () to Dong Dang (where they were escorted by a Chinese courier until they reached Da Peng (AA) on 14.1.90. courier had arranged a speed boat to take them to Tap Mun (Ã 19)

Arrivals on 17.1.90

A boatload of 74 Vietnamese consisted of 73 VBP and 1 ECVII arrived on 17.1.90. These 73 VBP left South Vietnam in small separate groups beginning Nov. 89 by land under the escort of Vietnamese couriers. After crossing the Sino-Vietnamese border, they assembled in Jiang Ping (I) where they picked up the ECVII and bought a motorised sailing junk and set sail for HK on 28.11.89. They made 7 stopovers in China on their way and were examined by PRC authorities both at Bei Hai (t) and Bei Sha(). When they called at Hai An (5 ) on 2.12.89 they met another group of 105 VBP on board another boat from Haiphone.
