Dear Mr Bradshaw
I was extremely sorry to hear from my colleague Mike Barham that your remittance of USD 34,720 to Bank for Foreign Trade of Vietnam (BFTV) in Hanoi was delayed. Our investigations have shown quite clearly that Midland Bank was at fault through a clerical error in the dispatch of the telex advising the Vietnamese of the credit to their account with ourselves.
I can only apologise for this error and would confirm that a telex has been sent today to BPTV in Hanoi, and subsequently acknowledged.
Should any physical loss have been incurred by any party as a direct result of this delay then I will be very pleased to consider making good such loss upon receipt of further details.
As you are aware, Midland Bank is the principal UK agent for BFTV and we undertake all their UK business. Part of the reason for this is our high standard of service and I am therefore particularly concerned about this incident. We have spoken to the people concerned within Midland Bank to ensure that this does not happen again.
If you would like me to write to either the Vietnamese party or to our Ambassador in Vietnam to apologise for this incident please let me know accordingly.
Yours sincerely
