INDEX

In our telno 59 to Hong Kong, we passed on a number of questions

which Mr Maude had asked about the preparations for the next repatriation flight, which, before the withdrawal of Cathay Pacific,

had been scheduled for 23 or 24 January.

2. The answers are listed in Hong Kong telno 98, a copy of which is

attached. There is little in them to generate optimism that the

next repatriation flight will be any easier than the last. If the reaction to the weapon-clearing exercise at Chi Ma Wan on

29 December is anything to go by, extraction of the next group from

the dormitories there is likely to prove difficult; and the use of

San Uk Ling could be presented by the media as particularly

sinister.

I attach a copy of the fax giving family details of the two groups proposed for the next two flights.
