MR. STEPHEN TILLEY,MANAGING DIRECTOR
plw bmy tu 7 6/2 about
I refer to our telephone conversation of this morning and correspondence between myself and Mr. Alan Paul earlier in the year.
Tilden Industries have successfully supplied Stages 1, 3 and 4 of the Whitehead Centre in Hong Kong tor Vietnamese refugees, and have met the stringent technical requirements of both the Hong Kong Government and UNHCR, in particular in terms of durability, capability of withstanding typhoons and fire regulations.
We have submitted draft proposals for 3 storey buildings for Tai A Chau within the same budget parameters a 8 Whitehead Phase 3 and 4. As I said on the telephone 1 feel that if funds are given to the Hong Kong Government to spend at their discretion then political pressure could if we are not careful backfire, however, if the British Government are deciding to give bilateral aid specifically for the refugee housing problem, bearing in mind that Tilden buildings meet both price and technical criteria, then it will surely be possible for the British Government to give buildings rather than cash, thus ensuring that the money is re-circulated within the British economy.
I shall be away for the next two weeks, but in my absence should you wish to speak to anyone here please speak to either Mr. Alan Cotterill, my co-Director, or Mr. Alwyn Hector, Senior Sales Executive. Both have had experience in Hong Kong and are fully aware of the situation.
Yours sincerely
Salilly
