Wilson, at his request, hopes to be able to meet OECD's

Secretary General im formally when he visits Paris in

October. But before the Hong Kong Government decide to

seriously press ahead with some form of involvement with the

OECD, it would seem essential to check with China whether

they would see any obstacles. To pursue the question openly

with the Secretariat, or with members would seem ill-advised

in the absence of assurance from China that they would not

make problems.
