OECD EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE IN SPECIAL SESSION, 16-17 MAY 1990
BRIEF NO 8 RELATIONS WITH THE NON-MEMBER ECONOMIES
OECD/DAES DIALOGUE
MKB 09/2
1. Objectives
2.
1990
INDEX
d
To maintain the momentum of the dialogue, whilst avoiding any institutionalised links at this stage.
To ensure that as our thoughts on follow-up are fully taken on board by the Secretary-Genel as he prepares his paper on the subject and that OECD ministers are clearly briefed for their
meeting on 30-31 May.
Points to make
(General)
UK believes experience of workshops has been largely positive. Dialogue should be maintained.
Glad that Secretary-General is preparing a paper on follow-up. This will be very helpful. Right to consult DAES themselves - assume resource implications will be watched.
3. (UK thoughts on follow-up)
NB: these are contained at Flag E and the speaking note attached to Flag F. But the essential points:-
maintain a graduated apprach, the speed of which can be adjusted,
avoid institutionalisation at this stage,
don't force the pace unduly.
DAES mustn't be "crowded"; on the
act
other hand we should not wait for them to bet first.
