My Government will continue its policy of encouragement and pressure on all sides on South Africa to enter negotiations to create through peaceful means a democratic non racial South Africa. They will continue to work for peaceful solutions and to relieve famine and refugee problems in the Horn of Africa.

My Government will continue to support the right of the people of Burma to live under a democratically elected government. They will continue to work for a comprehensive political settlement in Cambodia.

My Government will continue to work vigorously to promote confidence in Hong Kong, building on the foundation of the Sino-British Joint Declaration. They will honour their committments to the people of the Falkland Islands.

My Government will continue to support the Commonwealth, in close cooperation with the new Commonwealth Secretary-General.

My Government will continue to meet its commitment to the prosperity and good government of our Dependent Territories, and to assist those governments which face serious problems associated with drugs and drug trafficking. They will continue vigorously to work to combat the international drugs problem.

My Government will continue their fight against international terrorism; and maintain their efforts to seek the release of hostages held in Lebanon. They will continue working hard with others for a peaceful solution to the conflicts in the Middle East.
