decision after careful examination of all the
options. Their decision has full support of
British Government.
Confident we can convince Chinese Government of
viability or project and good sense.
Important that we should meet Chinese experts
as soon as possible, either in Hong Kong or
Peking.
Understand that Chinese Government will be
providing full response to Mr Wu's points in
the near future.
Relations with China
Have been impressed by importance people here
attach to Britain having a good working relationship with China.
Of course Sino-British relations have been
through a bad patch.
Don't want to isolate China.
Want to
encourage process of reform. Important for
Hong Kong economy. Have worked with China on
Cambodia and Gulf.
