Opening Remarks

When I came here I said I would fight for Hong

Kong. My six day visit to the Territory has

reinforced this conviction.

Recognise people's concerns and anxieties. But greatly impressed by how many people are planning positively and constructively for a long term future in Hong Kong.

Deeply impressed by all that I have seen

and all that Hong Kong has achieved (eg bustle of container port; speed of university).

Struck by all that Hong Kong people are doing for themselves to build for the

future. In addition you have my assurance that you have and will continue to have -

full backing of the British Government.
