LORD CAITHNESS' VISIT TO JAPAN AND SOUTH KOREA
1. Plans for this visit appear to be falling into shape. The suggestions in Seoul telno 338 seem sensibly to accommodate the Minister's preferences for the Korea leg.
2.
However, there is some confusion over return flights. I gather there are no direct flights from Seoul to London on the evening of 16 December. Accepting Mr Wright's suggestion that the Minister should fly up from Ulsam for a connecting flight from Seoul, the only serious option is an 1845 departure on a Cathay Pacific flight (CX411) via Hong Kong. (The alternative is a Korean Air flight via Bangkok. This does not appeal!) We cannot trace the 1820 British Airways departure to which Mr Wright refers.

He
At Hong Kong the Minister could simply catch the connecting flight to London (there is a wait of only a few minutes). But he wonders whether this might not be taken amiss in Hong Kong. Alternatively, he could make a virtue of necessity by undertaking a short official programme there. would arrive in Hong Kong at 2220 on 16 December. He could undertake a day's programme on 17 December, departing that evening. He wonders whether this might be the occasion to make contact with the NCNA. I should be grateful for advice from Mr Paul on these points.
On accommodation in Seoul, I suggest that you and I stay at the nearby hotel.
