New airport and port developments announced in Oct 89. Total cost HK$127B ( US$16B ) Third University takes first students in 1991; built at cost of $2B.

1600-bed Tuen Mun hospital at cost of $1.7B near completion.
1620-bed Pamela Youde District Hospital at cost of $2.3B for completion in 1992.
$1B road tunnel to link Tsuen Wan and Shatin for completion in 1990.
Central and Wanchai reclamation at cost of $5.8B to commence in mid 1991.
West Kowloon reclamation at cost of $7B to commence in early 1991.
$600M Cultural Centre opened Nov 89, bringing the number of concert seats in H.K. to 23,000. $20B environmental protection plan for the 1990s.
$300M Kowloon Park (14 ha) opened. $350M H.K. Park ( 10 ha) opening in 1991.
74 ha Ocean Park; opening new attractions.
21 Country Parks covering 40% of the land area.
35 multi-purpose games halls and 21 swimming complexes, with 124 pools, built.
Urban and Regional Councils will spend a further $3B on recreation and sports over next 3 years.
Major Private Projects
Eastern Harbour crossing, $3B cost, opened Sept. 89.
Tate's Cairn Tunnel, $2B cost, will open in 1991.
Container Terminal 6, $2.5B cost, now operational. Container Terminal 7, $7.5B, completion 1990. Bank of China new building, $1B plus cost, opening early 1990.
Chartered Bank redevelopment, $600M cost, opening 1990.
90 storey high hotel, 2400 rooms, planned for Hong Kong Island; other big projects continuing. Cable TV introduction, cost $5B, completes in 1995.
All major private projects have pay-back periods well beyond 1997. Citicorp Plaza, a twin tower complex opening in 1993.
