CALL ON MR MAUDE BY LORD GLENARTHUR: 2 FEBRUARY

1. Lord Glenarthur is calling on Mr Maude on Friday 2 February at

11.30. I am sorry that I shall be unable to sit in at the meeting:

I am unfortunately already committed to represent the FCO at the

annual meeting of the Hong Kong Steering Committee in the Ministry

of Defence. Miss Major is however available to represent the

department.

Mr Maude should be aware of the attached letter from

Sir David Wilson to Lord Glenarthur about his visit. The key point

is that the Governor would like to steer Lord Glenarthur away from a

meeting with the new Head of NCNA, Zhou Nan. Should the question

arise during tomorrow's call, I recommend that Mr Maude endorses the

Governor's advice.

3. In addition to the visit to Vietnamese boat people to which the

Governor refers in his letter, Lord Glenarthur will be having lunch.

with Dame Lydia Dunn; and the Governor is arranging a dinner at

Government House in Lord Glenarthur's honour.
