ZHENG TUOBIN, MINISTER OF FOREIGN ECONOMIC RELATIONS AND TRADE (65)

Minister for Foreign and Economic Relations and Trade since 1985. Long expertise in foreign trade field. His predecessor, Li Qiang, was the first PRC Minister to visit Hong Kong in the late 1970s.

TIAN ZENGPEI, VICE-MINISTER IN CHINESE MFA (59)

Recently appointed Vice-Minister in charge of the Soviet Union, Europe and Hong Kong and Macao. Experience hitherto largely

confined to Eastern Europe. Ambassador in Czechoslovakia. Also

served in Yugoslavia.

LI RUIHUAN (55)

Member of Politbureau Standing Committee currently in charge of

ideology and propaganda. Believed to be one of the leading

pro-reformers in the top leadership. An engineer by background. Like Tian Jiyun, he is associated with Zhao Ziyang. Was in charge

of the construction of Peking's airport terminal in the late 1970s, Mayor of Tianjin until 1989.
