The SCM Post reported in its front page prominently that the deputy president of the African National Congress, Nelson Mandela, had called on HK people not to do business with South Africa and not to consider migrating there until apartheid was abolished.
In the front page, the paper said that Denmark was to offer an emigration safety net to local staff of Danish firms similar to that provided by other countries. The Danish Foreign Minister, Uffe Ellenman-Jensen, would arrive in HK tomorrow on a tour of the region and would discuss the package with HK business.
The Post in inside-page lead that about 80 representatives of 50 major local companies were to attend a private seminar on the British Nationality package tomorrow organised by one of the biggest legal firms in HK. The report noted that several leading companies, including the CLP, HKE, HKT and MTRC had either been approached by legal firms, or had inquired about possible deals to help their staff to secure a British passport under the scheme.
Legco member Martin Lee vowed that he would continue to urge Canada to grant visas valid until 2002 to HK people, noting that such visas valid until 2002 were critical to persuading the people to remain here, the HK Standard reported,

In its front-page lead, SCMP reported that the High Court heard yesterday that the Government had "treacherously lured" 111 VBP into the territory with false promises of food, water and repairs to their boat so they could continue their journey to Japan. And then the administration reneged on all the promises. HKS said that the group of boat people would be re-arrested if they succeeded in their application for a writ of habeas corpus. As the application, questioning the right of authorities to keep them detained, proceeded, immigration officers waited outside the court ready to arrest any of the eight representatives of the group present in court, should they be released.

HKS reported prominently in its front page that a team of Chinese officials expected to be led by Mo Ruiqin, head of the department responsible for HK affairs within the HK and Macau Affairs Office, would arrive at the end of this month, a source close to the Government said. The paper noted that the resumption of contacts after June 4 crackdown last year marked an important step forward in normalising Sino-HK relations.
