VISIT BY GOVERNOR OF BANK OF ENGLAND TO HONG KONG

Mr Elston of the Bank of England (601-4265) rang to tell me that the Governor of the Bank of England is visiting Hong Kong from 10-12 October, staying at Government House and accompanied by Mr Elston. He will be meeting a wide range of people in the economic and financial fields, including a dinner with the Bank of China.

Mr Elston would like some general briefing on JLG matters by 3 October. I suggested that the summary submission we do for Ministers at the end of each JLG meeting might be appropriate.

Since I shall be on a residential course in the week

1-5 October, I have suggested that Mr Sainty should do a first draft of the submission. He will bear in mind the need to copy it to the Bank of England.
