That is what we are aiming at. I will go back from this

visit very clear of the keen interest of people in Hong Kong that

this should be achieved.

QUESTION:

Does Li Hou's speech mean that we would get 20 directly-

elected seats in LECCO next year?

FORRIGE SECRETARY:

You must ask him, I do not know that it does, I do not know

that he would answer you immediately and totally in the

affirmative, no I do not think he would. But you must ask the

People's Republic of China about their stance on this matter, I do

not want to put wards in their mouths.

I am perfectly prepared to answer questions about what we

are aiming for. It is not just a matter of discussion with the

People's Republic of China, I have listened to many many people

here, indeed one of the main purposes of my visit was to assess

opinion among people here and I go back, as I say, with a keen

understanding of the very strong interest here in making this

substantial first move next year towards direct elections of

Legislative Councillors.
