FOREIGN SECRETARY'S DINNER WITH GEC THURSDAY, 4 JANUARY 1990 : HONG KONG

1. The future of Hong Kong was discussed during dinner. Lord Prior said that GEC was very willing to help in whatever way it could to rally support for the Government's nationality package. He understood that Mr Maude's office would be in touch with him in due

course.

2. The Secretary of State also undertook to write to Sir Robert Davidson once a decision about the constitutional arrangements in Hong Kong had been taken. I would be grateful if HKD could bear this in mind and provide a letter to issue at the same time as any public announcement.
