PRO-DEMOCRACY ACTIVISTS IN HONG KONG

With reference to Stephen Pattison's letter to you of 7 August, I am sure you will agree there is no need for any further reply to the petition. For obvious reasons we would prefer this issue to die down and I see little advantage in prolonging a debate where we have no chance at all of persuading the other party of our point of view. As you are aware, some public-spirited soul paid the fines and with that we would prefer the matter to close.

In any case the Bill of Rights may well result in the removal of this provision in the law.
