One of the points we talked about when you were here was the need to encourage people in Hong Kong to take part in the political process by actually running the risk of standing for election.

I thought you might be interested to see a speech I made yesterday which had this as one of its main themes. The other theme was the need to accept where we have now got to on the Basic Law etc and make the best of it rather than continuing to grumble about what might have been. The speech seems to have had a good run in the Chinese press locally which is, of course, where I most want to make the impact.
