OMELCO LONDON (OFFICE TO BECOME PERMANENT ESTABLISHMENT

The OMELCO In-house today considered the effectiveness of

OMELCO's presence in London since last July and decided to turn the OMELCO London Office into a permanent establishment.

A spokesman for OMELCO said the purpose of the London Office is to enhance OMELCO's efforts in maintaining contacts with

British Government Ministers, Members of the Parliament and the British public and keeping them informed on major issues in Hong Kong.

"With its own office in London, Omelco will be able to maintain

its separate and independent identity, particularly in

representing the views of Hong Kong people," he said,

"It will make OMELCO and the views of its Members more

accessible to friends of Hong Kong in the UK who are interested

in Hong Kong's well-being" he added.

The spokesman stressed that the London office will be concerned

with all issues affecting Hong Kong, not just the nationality

issue.

The OMELCO London Office will be headed by an Assistant

Secretary General. Working under the ASG will be the Public Relations Adviser, a post that is currently held, and wil1 continue to be held by Mr Ross Clarke; a personal assistant and

a clerical officer.
