PLAN FOR DEVELOPING ANTI DRUG TRAFFICKING INTERNATIONAL MUTUAL LEGAL ASSISTANCE ARRANGEMENTS 1989-91

1. The eighth quarterly review meeting was held on 27 April. A record of the meeting is attached, with a progress report on the implementation of the plan. There have been a number of developments since the last meeting: notably signature of a treaty with Spain, and progress with other European countries and the Dependent Territories. We shall be sending copies of the progress report to all posts in parts 1-4. Actions for the next quarter are detailed in the "next step" column of the report.

2. Comments on the record of the meeting and progress report are welcome, especially additional information about relevant forthcoming Ministerial visits to priority countries. Views to Gordon Brown please (270-2683). We would also welcome any views on the tentative dates for the negotiation of agreements indicated for candidate countries for 1989 and 1990.
