"In China's view, HK is Chinese territory. The vast majority of people living there are Chinese nationals. What government would allow foreign countries to turn its own citizens into foreign nationals simply by giving them passports?" Ching asked.

In a commentary in Ming Pao, the New HK Society said it was high time for the liberals to review their strategy in the aftermath of the June 4 incident. It suggested that the liberals should adopt a more rational, practical and moderate line, get to understand China more objectively, give up their confrontational approach, and criticise the undemocractic style of some of their members.
