Replacement of AM Transmitter

When we set up our transmitter station in 1959, it was our aim to radiate

the same power as Radio Hong Kong did; namely 2KW. Unfortunately, 2KW

transmitters were only manufactured by Marconi and AWA with an outdated

design. The delivery was exceedingly lengthy and could not meet our time

scale. Also, there was imperial preferential on the use of equipment. We accepted to register for IKW by purchase Canadian transmitters to get

our transmissions on air in time.

With the forthcoming territory wide FM transmission, all seven channels will radiate the equal power. We therefore take the opportunity to seek a power increase of our AM transmissions to gain transmission parity and to gain improvement of our signal strength which has been worsening due to the ever increasing of high rise buildings. Our proposal is based on

the use of transmitters manufactured by Harris and Nautel

J a copy of their catalogue is enclosed for your perusal. A pricelist for Nautel

equipment is also enclosed for your information. Though no quotation was received from Harris, they indicated a budgetary price of US$138,000.-

for 25KW transmitter and US$70,000.- for 10KW transmitter.

Replacement of Studio to Transmitter Link Equipment

The reason for the replacement is that the supply of spare parts is no longer guaranteed by the manufacturer though an alternative could be

offered but at an enormous cost. It is proposed to replace the existing equipment with the latest Moseley Associates STL equipment type 6030. (see attached enclosures of leaflet/technical data relating to the equipment)
