CR1, the flagship of Hong Kong commercial broadcasting for twenty-nine years, is a broad based general interest family station drawing its audience mainly from a
widespread of age groups.
Its blend of easy listening music, drama, audience
participation, and sport sets off the serious side of newscasts every thirty minutes, news analysis, financial news, current affairs and public service. In this latter field its programme "Today Hong Kong" on the subject of illegal workers won a special commendation from the Asian Broadcasting Union in 1988 (see Appendix B).
It is a station operating in the tradition of a Public Broadcaster in that during its 24 hour broadcast day it offers a wide spectrum of programming which caters to almost every taste and age group.
It is active in all kinds of outside broadcasts particularly sports and many others which support community activities and public appeals (see Appendix C). Its regular racing and soccer commentaries have a large following, and the station sends its own teams overseas to cover the Asian Games, the Olympics and other fixtures particularly in China. The Sports Producer attends overseas radio sports seminars and a junior producer is scheduled for an overseas training course later this year.
